Berkshire at The Grove transformed a historic 1915 convent in Stevens Point into an intergenerational affordable housing community. The 40-acre redevelopment preserves the character of the former Sisters of St. Joseph–Third Order of St. Francis campus while introducing 85 affordable senior apartments and 17 family townhomes, for a total of 102 residences.
The project combined historic preservation with new housing and community-oriented adaptive reuse. A complex financing structure incorporating LIHTCs, historic tax credits, TIF, HOME, CDBG, and other funding sources helped make the redevelopment possible, while the former chapel was repurposed by CREATE Portage County as a space for collaboration, entrepreneurship, and community events.
