Calumet Woods was developed by Michael Weiss through the predecessor of General Capital (Midland Development) as a joint venture with Wispark, the real estate development arm of WE Energies. Started in 1994, the park was finished the following year and sold out by 1998. The 45-acre land parcel was purchased from Brynwood Country Club and located directly adjacent to the golf course. The development team obtained Tax Increment Financing from the City of Milwaukee to fund a full array of infrastructure improvements. Several successful businesses are now operating in the park and hundreds of construction and permanent jobs were created as a result of the effort.
